The Indian Hills Improvement Association was originally established in 1926 and was charged with the responsibility of making necessary arrangements for police, fire, health, and promoting a sense of community. Today the IHIA, (NOT an HOA) but a 501(c)3 continues the mission of promoting a sense of community through its many events, from the Annual Chili and Spaghetti Dinners, Road Side and Community Cleanups, Curb Side Slash Collection, Annual Bar-B-Que, History and Holiday Potlucks, not to mention its weekly Community Coffee and Pancakes held every Thursday from 7:00 -11:00 AM. The IHIA, run by volunteers, owns and maintains the Indian Hills Community Center, Community Sign and Community Park.
The IHIA receives no tax monies and raises funds for operating expenses, maintenance and capital improvements, through membership dues, merchandise sales, building rentals and tax deductible donations.
The Community Center, once a one-room schoolhouse for Jefferson County District 38 was built in 1923. Regardless of being added onto in the mid 1940’s the building was unable to keep up with a growing enrollment and closed in 1949. In 1952 a citizens group formed and built the west wing. In 1958 the building was deeded over to the IHIA . In 1997 the Building was listed on the Colorado Register of Historic Sites, and in 2023 the location of the Indian Hills Centennial Celebration. The Community Center is available for private as well as public meetings.
